Garab Dorje (6th century BC to 2nd century CE) was a very early patriarch of the Nyingma Sect, who is credited with being the first to teach dzogchen. He was from the country of Uddiyana, a country north west of India, the same location as Padmasambhava. His level of realization was such that he received the teachings directly from the Samboghakaya realms through Vajrasattva and Vajrapani. Vajrasattva received the dharma directly from Dorje Chang Buddha. The text used for this course, The Golden Letters, incudes his teachings and commentary on his teachings, as well as his biography and the historical origins of dzogchen in our world.
