Growing up in the late 50’s and 60’s in the Southeast was a challenge. My parents were Methodist, so that was my early spiritual guidance. They were also extremely prejudiced, as was most of the members of the church I attended. As a child and teen, I could never reconcile the prejudiced views expressed by the adults with the compassion and loving kindness taught by the New Testament. I just knew early on that all people were equal and could not understand why some were being treated differently. Never receiving an adequate explanation for my questions, I made a promise after an incident in which I was punished for helping a person of color. That promise was to benefit all others to the best of my abilities.
That promise led me into becoming an Occupational Therapist where I helped people get stronger with exercises and return to independence in living by either adapting their environment or getting them the assistive devices they needed to be independent. My specialty was in hand rehabilitation and I retired after 40 years of service.
While I was working in Taos, NM at my clinic, the cutest and tiniest nun and most gigantic monk came with a flier for a talk that was to be given on Buddhism featuring HH Dorje Chang Buddha III. It was part of the nationwide tour to promote The Treasure Book being done by Zhaxi Zhouma Rinpoche. My husband and I went. We were so impressed that we took a trip later that year to San Francisco and visited Hua Zang Si Temple, where the same tiny nun just happened to greet us at the door and gave us a tour of the temple and HH Dorje Chang Buddha III’s art works there. We went from there down to LA and visited the temple there, where Zhaxi Zhouma Rinpoche just happened to be reading a discourse from HH The Buddha in English. In the discourse, HH The Buddha spoke of loving kindness and compassion in a real way that I had never heard expressed before, a way that it could be used in every day life. This is what I had been waiting for my whole life.
I took refuge with the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas via Zhaxi Zhouma Rinpoche when she visited Taos again in 2009, and the Xuixing Institute was created as a Dharma Listening Center. Also, I took refuge again in 2015 with HH Dorje Chang Buddha III, becoming a direct student.
On June 10, 2012 with the recommendation of Zhaxi Zhouma Rinpoche, I was formally recognized as a reincarnated rinpoche by a Commission of Holy Virtuous Ones from Around the World that were respectfully invited by the International Buddhism Sangha Association.
In January of 2017, I received the certification of Xing De, Blue Button Level One, which was based upon completion of a 100 question essay test on Buddhist principles and a test of Virtue by Holy Dharma Protectors.
