D06(A)-Buddhism for Beginners, Main & Preliminary Practices (DISCOURSE ONLY)

This class is based on a Dharma Discourse given by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III in 1995 on the Trip to Taiwan on “The Differences between Main and Preliminary Practices.” It was given in response to a student asking about that relationship. The Buddha Master used the opportunity to expound on the “Enlightenment Guide” found in the back of His Commentary on the Heart Sutra. The Buddha Master’s more recent book that is based on that commentary and a series of discourses related to it, Imparting the Absolute Truth through the Heart Sutra, also has such a guide. We have included it as an essential course (DCB26-How to Realize Prajna) for the LFBCS programs and urged that an English translation be released asap.

The Buddha Master also provides excerpts from the Vimalakirti Nirdesa Sutra (V-01), discusses the origin and nature of Holy Nectar, and explains many of the preliminary practices.

The videos are from a reading by Zhaxi Zhuoma Rinpoche at a Lemonade Sangha class given on September 28, 2021. Unfortunately, the Q & A session with this class was broken up with technical difficulties and is not available.

This free course does not include any assignments, quizzes, supplemental materials, or group discussions that you can find when the full course is offered as D06.

Prior to viewing this course, you are required to listen to the caveats provided in “PRELIMINARY STEPS” of Section 1 of the curriculum, which is a requirement for all preliminary translations of the Buddha Master’s teachings and complete “D01(A)-The Supreme and Magnificent Dharma”.

General reference materials on Buddhism including common terms and a brief “Glossary” are also included at the end of the lessons for all beginning level courses.

Our school offers an introduction to the Practices and Blessings Tradition of Mahayana Buddhism. We offer certain practices that can enable you to become enlightened in this lifetime if followed precisely. This is possible with the blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and by our cultivation of morality, meditation, and wisdom. We recognize and praise these holy beings by our chants and develop our wisdom through learning the Dharma. We also recognize that, at present, we only have preliminary translations that may contain errors, but that still offer us guidance on our path.
Part of our cultivation is to share any merit we receive with all living beings (not just humans). You will understand these concepts and principles as you study these courses.
It is probably because you did not click the “Completed” button at the end of the task. The other reason is that it may be for “Assignments (essay questions)” that are pending approval by the facilitator. It can be confusing. If you are not getting a response from the facilitator, email them and be sure and include your name and the Course ID and ask to have course graded.
